Careers

We hire rarely, and slowly.

Six people have ever been employed here. That is not a boast about efficiency, it is a warning about how seldom this page has anything on it.

Pitch a role

Tell us what you would do here that nobody is doing.

Most of the people here arrived without a posting to answer. One page is enough: the problem you want to work on, what you have already built in that area, and what you would spend the first year doing. If it is a real argument we will take it seriously, and if it is not for us you will get a reason.

How we hire

03 steps
01

We read what you built

Send the thing, not the description of the thing. A repository, a paper, a rule you drafted, a system that runs. If the work is somewhere public, the link is the application.

02

A conversation, not a panel

One long conversation about a problem you have actually worked on, with the people you would work with. No case study written over a weekend for free, and no exercise invented to rank you against other candidates.

03

A decision, with a reason

Two weeks from that conversation, and a reason either way. A rejection with no reason in it is the cheapest thing an organisation can produce and the least useful thing you can receive.

What we look for

  • People who have already made something in the area they want to work on, at whatever scale.
  • A habit of going back to first principles rather than to the last draft everyone agreed on.
  • Willingness to publish what did not work, which is most of what this organisation's method produces.
  • Comfort being the person who says the framework cannot be built as written.

Membership is not employment

Perrin & Fidutam counted more than 1,600 members in its community over the years, and Perrin Research inherits that record. Membership does not constitute employment. The organization has only ever employed six people, and any other individual claiming to be on the team of, employed by, or otherwise representing the organization is making a false claim.
