Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Perrin Institution, Inc., operating as Perrin Research (“the Institution,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with its principal office at 303 Banyan Blvd, Suite 400, West Palm Beach, FL 33401, USA. They govern your access to and use of this website, its pages, content, downloads, and any services made available through it (collectively, the “Site”).

By accessing or using the Site, you accept these Terms and our Privacy & Cookie Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

The Institution previously functioned as a think tank operating publicly under the name “Perrin & Fidutam.” References on the Site to Perrin & Fidutam, including in the archive and in the research compendium, refer to the same organization's historical operations. The organization now operates publicly as “Perrin Research,” previously “Ad Ventures,” operating one programme, The Emerald Foundry, which backs technical projects. Both are programs of Perrin Institution, Inc. and not separate legal entities unless expressly stated otherwise.

The Site is intended for general audiences and may be used by anyone capable of forming a binding contract in their jurisdiction. The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them (see the Privacy & Cookie Policy).

You may use the Site only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

• access, scrape, or index the Site by automated means at a volume or frequency that burdens our infrastructure, or circumvent any access restriction or rate limit;
• misrepresent your identity or affiliation, including any claim of employment by or association with the Institution or Perrin & Fidutam that is not accurate (see Section 8);
• introduce malware, attempt to gain unauthorized access to any system, or interfere with the Site's operation;
• frame, mirror, or republish the Site or substantial portions of its content without our prior written consent, except as allowed in Section 5;
• use the Site or its content to train, fine-tune, or evaluate machine-learning models for commercial purposes without our prior written consent;
• use any content on the Site in a manner that suggests endorsement by the Institution, its partners, or any person named on the Site.

The Site and its content, including text, research publications, the research compendium, graphics, logos, page design, and software, are the sole and exclusive property of Perrin Institution, Inc. and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. “Ad Ventures,” “Ad Ventures Lab,” “Ad Ventures Fund,” “The Perrin Institution,” “Perrin & Fidutam,” and “Fidutam Research,” and the associated marks, are trade names of the Institution. Ownership of published works, including works contributed by members, is governed by the Intellectual Property & Ownership Notice.

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to view the Site and to download one copy of materials we expressly make downloadable (including the research compendium PDF) for personal, educational, journalistic, or other non-commercial use, provided you keep all attribution and copyright notices intact and cite the credited authors when quoting. Any other reproduction or distribution requires prior written permission via contact@perrininstitution.org.

Third-party names, marks, and logos that appear on the Site (including in partner and press references) belong to their respective owners; their appearance is historical and referential and does not imply sponsorship or endorsement of the Institution by those parties, or of those parties by the Institution.

Research, publications, archive material, and commentary on the Site are provided for informational purposes only. They represent the views of the credited authors at the time of writing, not necessarily the current institutional position of the Institution. Nothing on the Site constitutes legal, financial, investment, medical, or other professional advice, and nothing on the Site is an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy any security or other financial instrument.

If you email us or otherwise submit material (a research request, correction, proposal, or similar), you grant the Institution a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and adapt that material in connection with our nonprofit mission. You represent that you have the rights necessary to grant this license. We are not obligated to respond to, publish, or return submissions.

Perrin & Fidutam counted more than 1,600 members in its community over the years, and Perrin Research inherits that record. Membership does not constitute employment. The organization has only ever employed six people, and any other individual claiming to be on the team of, employed by, or otherwise representing the organization is making a false claim. To verify someone's affiliation, contact us directly.

Claiming, in commercial, professional, or academic contexts, an employment or representative relationship with the Institution or Perrin & Fidutam that does not exist may constitute fraud or misrepresentation under applicable law. We reserve the right to publicly correct false claims of affiliation and to pursue available legal remedies.

The Site links to and embeds third-party content, including video hosted by YouTube. It also links to legacy publication pages on the Institution's own perrininstitution.org domain, which remain part of the Site. We do not control genuinely third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices. Embedded third-party content may set cookies or collect data as described in our Privacy & Cookie Policy; your use of that content is subject to the third party's own terms.

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY. HISTORICAL METRICS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS DESCRIBED IN THE ARCHIVE REFLECT THE ORGANIZATION'S RECORDS FOR THE PERIODS INDICATED AND MAY NOT REFLECT CURRENT OPERATIONS.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE INSTITUTION, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Institution and its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice compliant with 17 U.S.C. § 512 to contact@perrininstitution.org with the subject line “DMCA,” identifying the work, the allegedly infringing material and its location on the Site, your contact information, a good-faith statement, a statement of accuracy under penalty of perjury, and your physical or electronic signature. We may remove material and, where appropriate, restore it in response to a valid counter-notice.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time. We may revise these Terms by posting an updated version with a new “Last updated” date; material changes take effect upon posting. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Palm Beach County, Florida, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. You and the Institution each waive any right to a jury trial and agree that claims may be brought only in an individual capacity, not as a class or representative action.

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, together with the Privacy & Cookie Policy, are the entire agreement between you and the Institution regarding the Site. You may not assign your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours in connection with a reorganization of the nonprofit.
